Police charge man after Northern Suburbs incident

PolAir, STAR and Northern patrols have worked together to arrest a man in Salisbury Downs this morning.

About 9.20pm Wednesday 14 June police were on Nelson Road, Gulfview Heights when they spotted a white Ford ute, checks revealed the driver of the car was wanted over alleged domestic offences.

Patrols attempted to stop the car however it took off at speed away from police, allegedly at speeds of 120km/h in a 60km/h zone. Police didn’t pursue the vehicle but radioed in that it was last seen on McIntyre Road. Then a short time later seen by other patrols travelling north on Main North Road, Salisbury Plain.

PolAir attended the area and managed to locate the car travelling through Munno Para West. The car was followed as it drove through Angle Vale, where at about 10pm the driver dumped the ute and got into a black Holden sedan and drove off. The owner of the Holden was known to the suspect.

PolAir followed the Holden through Elizabeth East and Salisbury East, where patrols successfully spiked the car as it travelled on Bridge Road, however it continued driving through Parafield Gardens, Mawson Lakes then headed north on the Salisbury Highway.

As the car travelled north it lost control and crashed into a tree, here STAR Group officers were waiting and pounced on the driver, placing the 27-year-old Salisbury East man under arrest.

Police searched the man allegedly locating a small amount of an illicit substance, knuckle dusters and an expandable baton.

He has been charged with assault, driving unlicenced, contravene direction to stop motor vehicle, speed and manner dangerous, drive dangerously to escape police pursuit, resist police and possess prohibited weapon.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today (Thursday).
