A man has been charged following a pursuit in the state’s south.
About 6.45pm yesterday (Friday 24 July 2026), officers from the Highway and Traffic Patrol attempted to stop a station wagon allegedly travelling in excess of the 110km/h speed limit, east along the Hume Highway, Bowning.
When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
It will be alleged the pursuit continued for 60km until it was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle was located abandoned in the carpark of a correctional centre in Goulburn. Police searched the vehicle, and allegedly located a set of knuckle dusters and a gold necklace, among other items.
Shortly after 8pm, officers arrested a 29-year-old man, who police will allege was the driver, on a train at Goulburn Railway Station.
The man was taken to Goulburn Police Station.
Inquiries established that the vehicle had been reported stolen from a Queensland address on Monday 20 July 2026.
He was charged with:
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
• Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
• Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
• Shoplifting value <=$2000
• Shoplifting value >$5000 & <=$15000
• Receive etc property stolen outside NSW
• Outstanding arrest warrant
• Licence expired within the last 2 years (two counts)
The man was also the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear before court in relation to previous matters.
The Queensland man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 3 today (Saturday 25 July 2026) where he was remanded in custody to appear at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 12 August 2026.
Police will allege the necklace and other items found within the vehicle were stolen from a shopping centre at Mittagong on Wednesday (22 July 2026).
