Police Charge Man After Serious Assault In Preston

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged unprovoked assault outside a shopping centre in Preston last month.

A 69-year-old man was at a bus stop when he was approached by an unknown man just before 1pm on Monday 18 March.

It is alleged the man was punched several times and hit with a hammer.

The Watsonia man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with several offences including reckless conduct endanger serious injury, intentionally cause injury and assault with weapon.

He was remanded and will appear at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court later today.
