Police charge man after sexual abuse of girl in Riverwood

A man will face court today charged over the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl in Sydney’s south.

Last month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man she had met on social media.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 22-year-old man on Belmore Road, Riverwood about 9am yesterday (Monday 1 June 2020).

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with seven counts of have sexual intercourse with child (aged between 14 and 16) and two counts of intentionally sexually touch child (aged between 10 and 16).

Police will allege in court that the man connected with the girl through social media, before meeting with her on several occasions for sexual encounters between April and May this year.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Tuesday 2 June 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
