Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged a man following an alleged sexual assault in Coburg last night.
A 25-year-old Coburg man has been charged with one count of rape.
He will appear before an out of sessions court hearing shortly.
The charges follow the alleged sexual assault of a woman aged in her 20s as she was running along Merri Creek some time after 6.30pm on Tuesday, 3 December.
The man has also been charged following an alleged attempted robbery at a service station on Lygon Street, Carlton just before 1am this morning.
He has been charged with one count of attempted armed robbery in relation to this incident.
The man was subsequently arrested by police in Carlton about 1.30am this morning.
