A man has been charged following a single-vehicle crash on the South Coast.
About 9pm on Sunday 10 May 2026, emergency services were called to East Street, Bega, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Officers attached to South Coast Police District responded and found a car had allegedly left the roadway, struck a fence and travelled down an embankment.
NSW Ambulance responded and treated three people – the driver – a 24-year-old man for chest injuries – and two passengers – a 21 -year-old woman for suspected spinal injuries and 34-year-old man for serious leg injuries.
All three were taken to South East Regional Hospital before the driver was later airlifted to Canberra Hospital.
The car was seized for forensic examination.
A blood sample was taken from the driver and sent away for further testing. The sample allegedly returned a reading of 0.170 grams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Officers attached to South Coast Police District with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries.
Following inquiries, yesterday (Tuesday 25 August 2026), a 24-year-old man attended Bega Police Station and was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – PCA, cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, drive with high range PCA and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).
His P1 license was also suspended.
He will appear in Bega Local Court on Tuesday 27 October 2026.
