Police charge man after stabbing in St Kilda

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a stabbing incident in St Kilda yesterday.

Police will allege the man, who was armed with a pruning saw, stabbed another man near the intersection of Pattison Street and Princes Street about 5.45pm.

The man attempted to assault two other men before running into a supermarket on Fitzroy Street.

The Critical Incident Response Team attended causing the man to run from the supermarket back out onto the street.

The man allegedly threw a cannister of lighter fluid at arresting officers, striking an officer to the upper body, before he was tasered and arrested.

The victim, a man in his 40s, received superficial injuries to the upper body.

The man has been charged with affray, intentionally cause injury, assault with a weapon and assault police.

He has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this morning.
