Police charge man after Stawell false imprisonment

Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 38-year-old man who allegedly held a woman captive in Stawell early this morning.

Emergency services received a Triple Zero (000) call from a woman whispering she was allegedly being held against her will in a truck travelling along the Western Highway towards Adelaide about 4.40am.

The woman wasn’t able to provide her location however police were able to track her phone to determine she was in the Stawell area.

Police immediately began searching around the Stawell area, quickly locating the truck at a truck stop on the Western Highway.

The male driver, who was known to the 33-year-old woman, was taken into police custody.

The Point Cook woman, who was located in the truck, sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Investigators have charged the Point Cook man with false imprisonment as well as possession of Viagra without a prescription and a small amount of methylamphetamines.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Horsham Magistrates’ Court on 6 December.
