Police charge man and woman after crash with police vehicle in Emerton

A man and woman will face court after being charged in relation to a crash which involved a police vehicle in Sydney’s west earlier this morning.

About 1.50am today (Thursday 15 December 2022), a black Jeep Cherokee and a fully marked police truck collided on Popondetta Road, Emerton.

The Jeep then mounted a footpath and crashed into the wall of a nearby hotel, before three males and a female were seen to run from the vehicle.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command – with the assistance of the Dog Squad – conducted a search of the surrounding area, and a man and woman – both aged 24 – were arrested on Jersey Road a short time later.

They were then taken to Mt Druitt Hospital under police guard for treatment of minor injuries.

The two constables in the vehicle – a 30-year-old man and 26-year-old woman – were taken to Nepean Hospital for observation and assessment.

Inquiries have established that the Jeep was stolen from a Winmalee address yesterday (Wednesday 14 December 2022) and has been seized for examination.

The man and woman were later taken to Mount Druitt Police Station, where they were each charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner. The woman was also charged with an outstanding warrant.

Both were refused bail and will appear at Mount Druitt Local Court on Friday 16 December 2022.

Inquiries are continuing.
