Police charge man over 2014 Jurien Bay sexual assault

Special Crime Division detectives have charged a man as part of an investigation into a sexual assault incident in Jurien Bay in 2014.

On the evening of Saturday 13 December 2014, the female victim, who was aged in her 30s at the time, was in the public area of a hotel and entered the female bathroom.

It will be alleged a man followed her in to the bathroom and sexually assaulted her.

At the time of the incident a male suspect was identified, however there was insufficient evidence to charge him.

Detectives from the Special Crime Division conducted a full review of all aspects of the investigation, and used enhanced DNA forensic techniques to analyse items of evidence seized at the time of the incident.

As a result of the review, a 36-year-old man, who was 27 years old at the time of the incident, has been charged with ‘Sexual Penetration without Consent’.

The man appeared before Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday 20 December 2023, and is next due to appear in the same court on Wednesday 28 February 2024.
