Police charge man over alleged sexual touching of a young girl in Wauchope

A man will face court today charged over the alleged sexual touching of a young girl outside a shop on the state’s Mid North Coast yesterday.

Officers from Mid North Coast Police District were contacted after reports a four-year-old girl had been sexually touched by an unknown man on Cameron Street, Wauchope, while out shopping with her family just after 9am yesterday (Thursday 14 March 2019).

An investigation was subsequently launched by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, with the assistance of Mid North Coast Police District.

About 4.20pm, a 52-year-old man was arrested at a nearby home and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.

He was charged with intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years.

Police will allege in court that that the man exposed himself to the young girl before sexually touching her, and then leaving the area.

The Wauchope man was refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court later today (Friday 15 March 2019).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
