Police charge man over alleged ‘up-skirting’ in Engadine

A man has been charged after allegedly ‘up-skirting’ two women at an Engadine supermarket on Australia Day.

About 4.30pm on Saturday 26 January 2019, a man carried a handheld shopping basket with a mobile phone inside as he walked around a supermarket on the Old Princes Highway.

It’s alleged, the man approached two women in the store, and placed the basket on the floor to film under their clothing.

Store staff were alerted to the man’s behaviour and when an employee approached him, the man left the store with his phone.

Police were notified and officers from Sutherland Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Yaralla Place, Engadine, just after 7am yesterday (Thursday 31 January 2019).

A 56-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he allegedly assaulted an officer.

A number of electronic devices were seized, and a preliminary examination of a hard drive showed thousands of ‘up-skirting’ images. They will undergo further forensic examination.

The man was charged with two counts of film persons private parts and assault police.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 21 February 2019.

As inquiries continue anyone with information is urged to contact Sutherland Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
