Police charge man over fatal crash in Riverina

A man has been charged over a fatal crash in the state’s Riverina region earlier this year.

About 7.15pm Monday 14 June 2021, emergency services were called to the Olympic Highway at The Rock, about 15kms south-west of Wagga Wagga, after reports a Toyota had lost control and collided with a motorcycle.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics and found the motorcycle rider critically injured. Despite CPR efforts, the man died at the scene.

The Toyota driver, a 39-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established with specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.

Following inquiries, on Friday 22 October 2021, a 39-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous – serious indictable offence, and negligent driving occasioning death.

The Gobbagombalin man has had his licence suspended and will appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 8 December 2021.
