Police charge man over pursuit at Lismore

A man will appear in court today charged following a pursuit on the state’s north coast overnight.

Just after midnight (Monday 19 February 2024), officers attached to Richmond Police District attempted to stop a Lexus on the Bruxner Highway at South Lismore after it was reportedly seen travelling in excess of the sign posted speed limit.

The Lexus failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling through Lismore to The Channon before turning onto Cox Road at Koonorigan, where the Lexus entered a rural property and was pursued through scrubland.

About 12.35am, the Lexus came to a stop above a gully and two occupants were seen fleeing from the vehicle.

Following a foot pursuit, two people – the 26-year-old male driver and a 20-year-old female passenger – were arrested. They were taken to Lismore Police Station.

The man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, Cause or permit use of unregistered vehicle on road, use motor vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today (Monday 19 February 2024).

The woman was later released.
