Police charge man over roof repair fraud in Haberfield

A British National has been charged over roof repair scam offences.

About 12pm on Tuesday 5 March 2019, an 82-year-old woman was at her home in Haberfield when three men purporting to be roof repairers attended and persuaded her to pay large sums of money for them to conduct repairs.

The woman gave the men $2000, however they persuaded her to pay them another $6000 and drove her to a bank so she could withdraw it.

Bank staff became suspicious and contacted police, and the men fled.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 5pm yesterday (Friday 15 March 2019), police arrested a 38-year-old man during a vehicle stop.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 16 March 2019).
