Police charge man over sexual assault of teen in Punchbowl

A man will face court today charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Sydney’s south west.

Earlier this week, detectives from Campsie Police Area Command, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 15-year-old girl was sexually abused by a man she met on social media.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 26-year-old man outside a unit at Punchbowl about 1am today (Thursday 30 January 2020).

The man was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with aggravated sex assault- victim under the age of 16 years.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted the girl at a home in Sydney’s south west this week.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today.

Investigations are continuing.
