A man has been charged over several alleged arson incidents in the state’s Central West.
About 4.40am Friday 10 July 2026, emergency services were called to Franklin Road, Orange, following reports of a fire.
Officers attached to Central West Police District attended and found a house well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire; however, the house was destroyed.
The house was unoccupied at the time. A fuel container was seized from the scene by police.
About 1am on Sunday 12 July 2026, emergency services were called to a home on McLachlan Street, Orange, following reports of a house fire.
Officers arrived and saw a garden shed and part of a detached building – which had allegedly been ransacked – were destroyed by fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the flames.
The house was also unoccupied at the time, and a second fuel container was located and seized by police.
Following extensive inquiries, on Wednesday 9 September 2026, police arrested a 30-year-old man at Bathurst Police Station, where he was charged with:
- Damage property by fire/explosive greater than $15000 (two counts), and
- Break and enter house steal value less than or equal to $60,000.
He was refused bail to appear before Orange Local Court on Thursday 17 September 2026.
