Detectives from the Logan Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man with 17 offences following investigations into multiple retail thefts.
On 22 September, officers and detectives attended an address at Birun Street in Woodridge and during a search of the property, police located a man allegedly hiding inside a bedroom and arrested him without incident.
It will be alleged the man was wanted in connection with multiple property and stealing offences, including the theft of trading cards from retail stores, at Tanah Merah, Shailer Park, Mount Gravatt and Redland Bay.
A 47-year-old man has been charged with 12 counts of stealing and two counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence.
He was refused bail and is due to reappear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 29 October.
Detective Acting Inspector Ben Henderson said police continued to work closely with retailers and shopping centres to prevent and disrupt retail crime across the district.
“Retail theft has a significant impact on businesses, their employees and the wider community, and we are committed to identifying those responsible and holding them to account,” Detective Acting Inspector Henderson said.
“Our officers work closely with both small and large businesses to identify emerging crime trends and ensure our resources are directed to the locations where they are needed most.
“Through a combination of high-visibility and covert patrols, we are working to detect and deter offending at shopping centres and retail precincts across Logan.
“These patrols are supported by targeted operations involving general duties police, detectives and Tactical Crime Squad officers, providing a strong police presence in our local retail hubs.
“We encourage retailers to continue reporting suspicious behaviour and criminal activity, as this information is vital in helping us identify offenders and prevent further offences.”
Investigations remain ongoing.
