A man has faced court after allegedly setting a ute on fire in the state’s Central West in June.
About 5.00am on Thursday 25 June 2026, emergency services were called to an address on Clem McFawn Place, Orange, about 5am Thursday 25 June 2026, with reports of a vehicle fire.
NSW Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire; however, the ute was destroyed, with damage also sustained to a nearby house as a result of the flames.
Officers attached to Central West Police District attended and commenced investigations under Strike Force Limeko.
Following extensive inquiries, about 6.30am on Friday 31 July 2026, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Matthews Avenue, Orange, where they allegedly seized a motor vehicle and several electronic devices.
Police arrested a 20-year-old man at the home and took him to Orange Police Station where he was charged with,
- Destroy etc property in company use fire etc greater than $5000
- Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
- Owner not disclose identity of driver/passenger
- Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
- Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance
Officers will allege the man travelled in a ute to the address before he used a jerry can to pour petrol over a parked ute and set it alight.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court on Friday 31 July 2026, where the man was granted conditional bail, to appear at Orange Local Court on Thursday 6 August 2026.
