Police charge man with aggravated sexual assault of teenage girl in Yagoona

A man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Sydney’s south west on the weekend.

About 5pm on Sunday 30 August 2020, a 14-year-old girl was at a park on Cooper Road at Yagoona, when she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man.

Following the assault, police will allege the man stole her handbag and phone before fleeing.

The girl alerted a member of the public and police were contacted.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

The girl was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.

Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Rookwood Road, Yagoona, about 1.15pm yesterday (Monday 31 August 2020).

An 18-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with:

– Aggravated sexual assault (x2);

– Sexual touching child under 16 (x2);

– Aggravated robbery; and

– Goods in custody.

The man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 1 September 2020).
