Police charge man with firearms, drug offences in Northern NSW

A man has been charged after a firearm and prohibited drugs were seized during a vehicle stop in the state’s north today.

In July 2022, officers attached to Richmond Police District established Strike Force Impala to investigate a number of serious property offences – including aggravated break, enter and steal offences – in the Coraki area.

As part of ongoing inquiries, police were conducting patrols of the Coraki area when they stopped a vehicle about 1.30am (Thursday 29 September 2022) on Queen Elizabeth Drive.

Police spoke with the driver – a 16-year-old girl – and the passenger – a 41-year-old man – before the vehicle was searched.

During the search, police located a .22 calibre Glock handgun, ammunition, cannabis and methylamphetamine.

Subsequent inquiries on the vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen from Queensland in May 2022.

The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station.

The man was charged with possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered pistol, possess loaded firearm in public place, possess ammunition without a licence, receive property stolen outside NSW and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court today (Thursday 29 September 2022).

The teenage girl was released pending further inquiries.
