Police charge men after Tuart Hill Barber shop fire

Arson Squad detectives have charged two men as a result of their investigation into a fire at a barber shop that occurred on Wednesday, 2 November 2022.

It is alleged about 3.50am, the two men drove a Holden Jackaroo to Tuart Hill and parked on Acorn Lane which is behind several commercial properties on Wanneroo Road in Tuart Hill.

It is alleged the men walked through Acorn Lane to the rear of the property where they climbed an external staircase and attempted to force open the security roller door at the rear entrance of the main shop. Both men were carrying water bottles they allegedly had converted to Molotov cocktails (petrol bombs).

It is further alleged when the men could not force open the roller doors, they returned to the lower level and used the Molotov cocktails to set fire to the storeroom and all of the contents.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 damage to the property and contents.

A 45-year-old man is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 7 November 2022 on the charges of:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire;

• Aggravated Burglary and Commit;

• No Authority to Drive; and

• Possess a Prohibited Drug (Meth).

A 28-year-old man is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 2 December 2022 on the charges of:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire; and

• Aggravated Burglary and Commit.
