Police charge men over armed robbery at Runaway Bay, QLD

Two men have been charged after the armed robbery of a pizza store at Runaway Bay overnight.

It is alleged around 10.25pm two men have entered the Oxley Drive premises with one producing a 20cm kitchen style knife while making demands for money.

The 22-year-old male employee refused to hand over any cash and the offenders left the store without obtaining any money.

The store employee followed the men out of the store and was allegedly assaulted by the men who then got into a white Mazda 2.

He did not sustain any injuries as a result of the assault.

Police conducting patrols observed the Mazda 2 travelling west along Napper Road at Ashmore and followed the vehicle which eventually pulled into a nearby tavern and parked. Police blocked the vehicle in and took the two men into custody without incident around 11.10pm.

A 20-year-old man from Nerang has been charged with attempted armed robbery and possessing dangerous drug.

A 22-year-old man from Beechmont has been charged with attempted armed robbery and assault.

Both are expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on November 29.
