Police Charge Teen After Pursuit At Wellington

A teenager has been charged following a pursuit in the state’s Central West yesterday.

About 3pm on Thursday 3 September 2026, police attempted to stop an SUV on the Mitchell Highway, Wellington.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a police pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle allegedly continued along Charles Street and Samuel Street before travelling towards Pierce Street and Gobolion Street. The pursuit was terminated shortly afterwards due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Pierce Street, Wellington. The SUV was located nearby.

Police will allege the vehicle was stolen from an address in Dubbo earlier the same afternoon.

The teenager was taken to Wellington Police Station, where he was charged with four offences,

· Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

· Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

· Never licensed person drive vehicle on road, and

· Class A motor vehicle exceed speed greater than 30 km/h – estimated.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Tuesday 20 October 2026.
