Police charge teen over armed robbery in Belmore

A teenager has been charged as investigations continue into three armed robberies in Sydney’s south west last week.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation following armed robberies at Earlwood, Campsie and Belmore on Thursday 6 August 2020.

In the Belmore incident, a male entered a convenience store on Burwood Road just before 9pm and allegedly threatened a waiting customer – a 28-year-old man – with a knife, demanding cash.

Police allege after a failed attempt to open the cash register; the male stole the attendant’s phone and ran out of the store before returning seconds later to steal cigarettes.

The customer and attendant were not physically injured.

Following inquiries, a 17-year-old boy was arrested at a Belmore school about 12.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 August 2020).

He was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The teen has been refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Thursday 13 August 2020).

Inquiries continue.
