Police charge teens after aggravated burglary and pursuit

Two teens have been charged following an aggravated burglary and subsequent pursuit in Melbourne’s south-east last night.

Officers were originally called to an address on Wurundjeri Boulevard in Berwick to reports of an aggravated burglary about 4pm on Wednesday, 1 December.

It’s alleged two males stole a wallet from inside the address before taking off in a stolen vehicle.

Police quickly responded and located the stolen Audi SUV travelling on Cranbourne Road in Narre Warren.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from a Pakenham address on Monday and had been involved in a string of alleged offending this week.

Officers successfully deployed stop sticks at the intersection of High Street and Beaumont Road in Berwick, deflating three tyres.

Police pursued the vehicle for a short distance before the driver dumped the car in parkland off Parkhill Drive about 6pm.

Two occupants fled on foot but were quickly tracked down by the Dog Squad who found them hiding in dense shrub.

An 18-year-old Drouin man and a 15-year-old Berwick boy were arrested and subsequently interviewed by Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives overnight.

The Drouin man has been charged with 16 offences including theft of motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous, aggravated burglary, home invasion, unlawful assault with a weapon and dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police.

He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The Berwick teen was charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of theft of motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, home invasion, two counts of theft and five counts of commit an indictable offence whilst on bail.

He was remanded to appear before a children’s court today.
