Police charge three after ball bearing attacks

Latrobe Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested two men and a teenager in relation to a series of incidents in the Latrobe Valley.

The men were arrested after a long investigation into several incidents where ball bearings and marbles were allegedly fired at victims, shops and houses; as well as a series of road-side fires.

The offences occurred in Traralgon, Yallourn, Morwell, Hernes Oak and Moe between June 2018 and March 2019.

A 38-year-old Morwell man received 37 charges including criminal damage by fire, criminal damage, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, recklessly cause injury and lighting fires during a fire danger period.

He is due to appear at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on 3 October.

A 17-year-old boy, also from Morwell, will face 38 charges including criminal damage by fire, criminal damage, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, recklessly cause injury and lighting fires in a fire danger period.

He is due to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

An 18-year-old Moe man received 40 charges including criminal damage by fire, criminal damage, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, recklessly cause injury and lighting fires during a fire danger period.

He is due to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on 30 September.
