Police charge three men over aggravated robbery in New Town

Police have charged three men over an aggravated robbery incident in New Town early yesterday morning.

The men arrived at the residence just before 2:30am, to retrieve a mobile phone they had left in the back of a taxi earlier in the evening.

Upon arrival they allegedly assaulted the man who had been driving the taxi, before leaving with his property including another mobile phone and a small amount of cash.

Two other residents of the address were assaulted at the same time. Thankfully the victims’ injuries were relatively minor and did not require medical attention.

Police arrested one of the men, a 31-year-old from Hobart, in the Hobart CBD yesterday afternoon. A 26-year-old woman who was with him at the time was also arrested and charged on unrelated matters.

The other two men, aged 24 and 25, were arrested in Risdon Vale a short time later. All three men have been charged with aggravated robbery.

The 31-year-old man has been remanded in custody and will appear in court this morning. The other two have been bailed and are expected to appear in court in February.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and anyone who has information that might assist investigators is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or at crimestopperstas.com.au
