Police charge three people after Wonnerup bridge fire

Busselton Detectives have charged three people as a result of their extensive investigation into a bridge fire in Wonnerup on 25 March 2020.

It is alleged around 5pm, a man and a woman drove a Subaru Impreza sedan and parked it under the bridge located near Layman Road. It is further alleged they set fire to the vehicle and the fire spread to the wooden structure of the bridge.

The vehicle and bridge were both destroyed by the fire and the damage bill is estimated at three million dollars.

It is further alleged whilst the fire was burning the man and woman called a female friend to collect them from the scene.

It is also alleged the man filed an insurance claim for his Subaru Impreza stating it has been stolen.

A 27-year-old man from Broadwater has been charged with:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire:

• Attempted Gains Benefit by Fraud; and

• Create False Belief.

He is next due to appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court on 7 July 2020.

A 20-year-old woman from Geographe has been charged with:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire:

• Attempted Gains Benefit by Fraud;

• Possess Prohibited Drug (Cannabis); and

• Possess Drug Paraphernalia.

She is next due to appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court on 9 July 2020.

A 42-year-old woman from Geographe is due to appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court today, 2 June 2020, charged with:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire (Party to the Offence).
