A man and a woman have been charged following an alleged assault and car theft in the state’s Central West on the weekend.
Officers from Central West Police District commenced an investigation on Saturday 10 October 2026, following reports of an assault and a car theft about 1am the same day.
Police were told a man – who had been sitting in a car in the car park of a motel on Summer Street at the time – was dragged from the vehicle by a man, before he and woman allegedly stole the car.
The man suffered minor abrasions and was taken to Orange Hospital for treatment and later released.
Following inquiries, about 3pm the same day, police observed the allegedly stolen vehicle on Lords Place, Orange.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, and when it did not stop, a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later for safety reasons.
Shortly after 3pm, the allegedly stolen vehicle was seen on Forest Road.
Police were told a man in his 40s was allegedly forced to enter the vehicle by a man and a woman, who were armed with a shovel, before the pair drove off with the man.
The man was able to get out of the vehicle near a park on Summer Street.
Following extensive inquiries, at about 6.45am yesterday (Monday 12 October 2026), police arrested a 36-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman on Jindalee Avenue, Orange.
Both were taken to Orange Police Station where the man was charged with five offences,
- Robbery in company
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
- Driver never licensed.
The woman was charged with four offences,
- Robbery in company
- Take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage
- Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
Both were refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 4 today (Tuesday 13 October 2026), where they were each formally refused bail to reappear before Orange Local Court on Thursday 10 December 2026.
