Police charge two after pursuit at Grafton

Two charged following an alleged pursuit on the Pacific Highway near Grafton yesterday.

About 11.40am (Tuesday 9 January 2024), officers from Coffs-Clarence PD attempted to stop a Haval SUV on the Pacific Highway at Arrawarra due to the manner of driving.

Police will allege in court that the vehicle was stolen from a Brisbane address on Sunday 7 January 2024.

When the SUV allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated with road spikes successfully deployed, and the vehicle was monitored by police until it stopped on the Pacific Highway near Grafton.

The driver, a man aged 20, and two teenagers, ran from the vehicle and were arrested in nearby bushland before being taken to Grafton Police Station.

The driver was charged with two counts of use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, driver never licensed, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, be carried in conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit not stop – drive dangerously.

He was refused bail to appear before Grafton Local Court today (Wednesday 10 January 2024).

The 14-year-old male passenger was charged with be carried in conveyance without consent of owner.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Wednesday 10 January 2024).

The 14-year-old female passenger will be dealt with under the Young Offender’s Act.
