A man and a woman have been charged following a pursuit and crash in the Southern Highlands today.
Shortly before 9.30am (Friday 19 June 2026), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol attempted to stop a grey Ford Focus allegedly speeding at Mittagong.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated soon after due to safety concerns. The vehicle continued south-west on the Hume Highway before taking the Illawarra Highway exit at Sutton Forest.
A short time later, emergency services were called Argyle Street, Moss Vale, after reports the vehicle had crashed. No injuries were reported.
A 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Southern Highlands Police Station where they underwent drug testing, allegedly returning positive results for methamphetamine.
Following inquiries, the 32-year-old man was charged with eight offences,
– Class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 10 km/h
– Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
– Class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h
– Drive recklessly or furiously or speed or manner dangerous
– Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)
– Not give particulars to owner of damaged property
– Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR, and
– Contravene prohibition or restriction in AVO (Domestic).
The 37-year-old woman was charged with never licensed person drive vehicle on road prior offence, and drive recklessly or furiously or speed or manner dangerous. She was also charged with breach of bail.
Both were refused bail to appear at Local Bail Division – Court 3 tomorrow (Saturday 20 June 2026).
Police will be alleging in court the car reached speeds up to 180km/h.
