Police charge two over attempted firearm acquisition in North Wollongong

Two men have been charged in the Illawarra after allegedly attempting to acquire a firearm.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad commenced an investigation after receiving information about the supply and acquisition of firearms.

As part of ongoing investigations, strike force investigators arrested two men – aged 21 and 25 – at a park in North Wollongong about 12.30pm yesterday (Monday 11 November 2019).

Following the arrests, two search warrants were executed at homes on Bertone Close, Fairy Meadow, and Bethlehem Street, Cringila.

During the searches, police seized mobile phones, electronic storage devices, and other electronic equipment.

The men were both taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with acquire firearm without permit to acquire-pistol.

Police will allege in court that the men arranged to purchase a Walther PP pistol online.

The pair were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 12 November 2019).
