Police charge two over shooting and assault of man in Punchbowl

Two men have been charged over their alleged roles in a shooting and assault in Sydney’s south-west.

About 2pm on Friday 29 November 2019, a 31-year-old man was in a park in Viola Street, Punchbowl, when he was approached by five males.

Police will allege in court that the group produced a firearm and fired several shots at the 31-year-old man, which missed.

The man was then allegedly chased and assaulted before he was knocked to the ground and one of the men stomped on his head.

The 31-year-old man, who suffered injuries to his face and torso, entered his vehicle and drove from the scene.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Ample.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 19-year-old man at Green Valley Police Station about 9am on Friday 7 February 2020.

He was charged with discharge firearm intend cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 8 February 2020, where he was formally refused bail to next appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 8 April 2020.

Following further inquiries, Strike Force Ample investigators arrested a 23-year-old man at a home in Sadlier Avenue, Heckenberg, about 11.30am yesterday (Thursday 13 February 2020).

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he was charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.

The man was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 14 February 2020).

Investigations under Strike Force Ample are continuing.
