A woman has been charged following a fatal crash in the state’s south earlier this month.
About 2.20pm on Wednesday 5 August 2026, emergency services were called to the bridge known locally as the “Five Mates Crossing” on the Olympic Highway, near Gerogery, about 30 kilometres north of Albury, following reports of a head-on crash involving two vehicles.
NSW Ambulance paramedics responded and treated a driver -a 65-year-old man, however he died at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 63-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Albury Base Hospital in a serious condition.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries, with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Following inquiries, yesterday (Tuesday 25 August 2026), officers issued the 63-year-old Victorian woman with a court attendance notice for dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death) and not keep left of dividing line-not class B/C vehicle.
Her driving privileges were also suspended in New South Wales.
She will appear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday 14 October 2026.
