A woman will face court charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted at a hospital in Gosford this morning.
About 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 21 July 2026), police arrested a 25-year-old woman wanted in relation to alleged shoplifting offences.
The woman was subsequently taken to Wyong Hospital for the assessment of an unrelated medical concern.
The woman remained in hospital overnight under police guard.
About 8.10am today (Wednesday 22 July 2026), the woman allegedly attempted to leave the ward and ran towards the exit whilst carrying a ceramic plate.
When officers attempted to stop the woman, she allegedly struck an officer’s head with the ceramic plate, causing the plate to smash.
The woman allegedly attempted to take hold of an officer’s firearm and was subdued following a further struggle in which OC spray was deployed.
The woman was handcuffed and returned to her room in the hospital.
The 23-year-old police officer was treated by medical staff for serious lacerations to his face.
After being medically cleared, the woman was taken to Gosford Police Station this afternoon.
There she was charged with 19 offences,
- Breach of bail
- Shoplifting (nine counts)
- Destroy or damage property
- Possess prohibited drug
- Attempt escape police custody
- Escape police custody
- Armed with intent commit indictable offence
- Wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, and
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty (three counts).
She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Wednesday 22 July 2026).
