Police Charge Woman After Stabbing At Newtown

A woman has been charged after an alleged stabbing in Sydney’s inner west.

About 11.40am yesterday (Monday 5 October 2026), police were called to King Street, Newtown, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and found a 48-year-old man had allegedly been stabbed in the hand by an unknown woman.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Following an initial search of the area, police located a 26-year-old woman nearby allegedly armed with a knife.

Police directed the woman to drop the knife; however, when she allegedly failed to follow the direction of police, a Taser was used and she was arrested.

The woman was taken to Newtown Police Station, where she was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, armed with intent commit indictable offence, hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty and two counts of larceny.

She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Tuesday 6 October 2026).
