Police charge woman over armed robbery at Tweed Heads

A woman will appear in court today charged over the alleged armed robbery of a man at Tweed Heads earlier this week.

About 3pm on Monday (18 September 2023), a 22-year-old man park his Hyundai Tucson in the carpark of a shopping centre on Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads, and went shopping.

Upon returning to his vehicle, the man was approached by a woman, armed with a knife, who allegedly threatened him, demanding his car keys.

The man ran off, chased by the woman who grabbed hold of his hair, pulling him backwards. During a struggle, the woman forcibly removed the keys from his possession.

The woman drove away and officers from Tweed/Byron Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

The man was treated for superficial cuts to his arm sustained during the struggle.

Following inquiries, a 35-year-old woman was arrested at Tweed Heads South just before 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 19 September 2023).

She was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon and shoplifting.

Police will allege in court that the woman stole the knife from a store at the shopping centre prior to the incident.

The woman has been refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Wednesday 20 September 2023).
