Police investigate armed robbery at North Mackay

Police have arrested a man after a car containing a five-year-old boy was stolen from an address in North Mackay this morning.

Around 11.20am a man who had been completing repair work at a College Court home reported that another man exited the residence, armed with a knife and threatened him.

The man has then attended a nearby address and stolen a vehicle, a white utility, also containing a 5-year-old child who had been asleep in the backseat.

The child’s parent was in the process of taking the child out of the car when he was interrupted by the man.

It will be alleged that the man also lit a fire at the original residence causing minor damage.

Police intercepted the vehicle a short time later on Keeleys Road and arrested a 40-year-old North Mackay man without further incident.

The boy was not physically harmed and was reunited with his parents.

Investigations are continuing.
