Police are appealing for public assistance after almost 1.5 tonnes of copper cable was stolen in the state’s Hunter region.
About 10:30pm on Tuesday 13 August 2019, an unknown number of people attended a business on Glenwood Drive, Thornton.
Police have been told approximately 1.5 tonnes of copper cable, contained in a black, rubber sleeve was stolen from the premises.
The total amount of stolen goods is valued at approximately $30,000; police believe the offenders used a vehicle to transport the cable from the premises.
Detectives from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District have launched an investigation into the incident.
Police believe the materials may be sold to scrap metal dealers; they’re urging local businesses to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
If the copper cables are burnt, police say they can emit plumes of thick, black smoke. Detectives are asking anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area at that time to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
