Police investigate Kailla collision

Police and emergency services responded to reports of a two car collision that occurred in Kialla last night.

Shepparton police observed a grey Volkswagen Golf travelling at high speed on Old Dookie Road just after 10pm.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, activating their lights and sirens on nearby Doyles Road, however the driver failed to stop and continued driving.

The police vehicle pulled over to the side of the road, allowing the Police Airwing, who were in the area at the time, to monitor the vehicle from the air.

A few minutes later, the Airwing advised police communications the Volkswagen had collided with another vehicle on Mitchell Road, causing the other vehicle a Holden station wagon to roll a number of times.

At the time of the collision, no police vehicles on the ground were pursuing the Volkswagen.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 24-year-old Kialla man, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

His passenger, a 30-year-old Shepparton man, transported by road to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening

The driver of the Holden station wagon, a 21 year old Shepparton man, was also airlifted with serious injuries.

Police will continue to investigate the collision with oversight by members of the Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice.
