Police investigate Northcote sexual assault

Mernda Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives are appealing for public assistance after a woman was sexually assaulted in Northcote in September.

Investigators have been told the 31-year-old Northcote woman was walking south along High Street when she was approached from behind by an unknown man about 6pm on Sunday 19 September.

The man grabbed the woman, sexually assaulted her and ran away from the scene.

Police have released an image of a man they believe could assist with enquiries.

He is perceived to be Caucasian, about 170cm tall, aged in his 30s with a thin build.

The man was wearing an army-green-coloured jacket, dark pants and was barefoot but carrying a pair of thongs.
