Police Investigate Old Beach Fatal Crash

Police investigations are continuing into a two-vehicle crash on the East Derwent Highway at Old Beach on Tuesday (23 June) in which sadly, two people died.

The collision occurred about 11.55am on the highway just north of Cassidys Road and involved a silver Holden Barina and a grey Mitsubishi Triton.

The two people who died at the scene were travelling in the Barina and were the only occupants of that vehicle.

Police can confirm the driver was a 20-year-old man from Greater Hobart and his passenger was a 22-year-old man, also from Greater Hobart.

Initial investigations indicate the Barina crossed to the opposite side of the road at an angle, when the collision occurred.

The driver of the second vehicle did not sustain any serious physical injuries and was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital as a precaution.

Investigations by officers from Crash Scene Investigation Services and Forensics are continuing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Our thoughts are with the family of loved ones of those involved in the crash.
