Police investigate serious assault at Acacia Ridge

Five men have been charged following the alleged armed assault of a man in Acacia Ridge yesterday afternoon (October 4).

It will be alleged a 21-year-old man entered his car to leave sporting fields on Mortimer Road around 4.20pm when he was approached by a group of men.

The man exited his vehicle and walked away towards the sporting fields when he was allegedly descended upon by the group and punched repeatedly.

A group of onlookers attempted to intervene and the group of men then retreated to a vehicle and allegedly produced a number of weapons including bats, knives and a hammer,

The men returned to the field and allegedly began to assault the 21-year-old man again, hitting him on the side of the head with a weapon.

The men were eventually disarmed by the group of onlookers before fleeing the scene.

The 21-year-old man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with facial injuries.

Police attended the scene and spoke with witnesses. A vehicle was intercepted on Beatty Road in Acacia Ridge a short time later and five men were arrested.

A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a number of weapons.

A 23-year-old Algester man, a 22-year-old Doolandella man, a 25-year-old Redbank Plains man, and 18-year-old Dakabin man and a 19-year-old Stafford man have all been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, going armed so as to cause fear and affray and are due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on October 6.
