Police are investigating after a man was seriously assaulted in Cairns City this morning.
Officers were called following a physical altercation between two men at a taxi rank in Lake Street around 3.45am.
Upon arrival they located a 37-year-old man lying on the ground with serious head injuries being assisted by members of the public.
The second man had left the scene by the time officers arrived.
A White Rock man was transported to the Cairns Hospital in a serious condition.
Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have information is urged to contact police.
Investigations are ongoing.
