Police investigate serious assault at Surfers Paradise 19 December

A man has been charged after allegedly punching another man at Surfers Paradise this morning, leaving him in a critical condition.

It will be alleged two men known to each other were walking along Surfers Paradise Boulevard just before 4am, when one turned and allegedly punched the other.

The 39-year-old man from New South Wales fell to the ground, his head hitting the concrete pavement.

Police rendered first aid to the man before paramedics transported him to hospital with a critical head injury. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 26-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and has since been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.

He has been refused bail to appear in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow (December 20).
