Police are seeking public information in relation to a trail bike involved in a crash at Bridgewater this afternoon.
Around 2.45pm police were called to Albion Road in relation to a crash between a blue trail bike and a white Holden Commodore sedan.
The trail bike was following the Commodore and crashed into it as it was turning right into a cul-de-sac.
The 18-year-old man from Bridgewater riding the bike and his teenage pillion passenger who was not wearing a helmet, were both thrown from the bike as a result of the crash.
When police arrived, the blue trail bike had been removed from the crash scene. Police are seeking information in relation to the current location of the bike, which was reportedly travelling with a red and white trail bike just prior to the crash.
Both people who were on the bike were transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The driver of the Commodore was not injured.
Inspector Philippa BURK said: “This is a timely reminder to the Bridgewater and Gagebrook community to help police to stop the ongoing issues with trail bikes and motorised push bikes being ridden around the streets.”
“These incidents are predominantly committed by youths, often at night, wearing dark clothes, with no lights and no helmets. The youths often are unlicensed and have therefore never proved their ability to hold a drivers licence.
“This crash could have resulted in the death of those on the bike who have sustained injuries which will involve hospitalisation, recovery and rehabilitation. Todays outcome could have been far more tragic.
Inspector Burk says her police officers do everything in their power to respond to, detect, prevent and prosecute offenders who continue to ride these illegal trail bikes and motorised push bikes. She now pleads with the community and parents to help police stop this behaviour.”
