Police investigating crash which injured two pedestrians at Howrah

Police are investigating a crash at Howrah this morning where two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle.

Around 6.55am police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Rokeby Road and Oceana Drive, where a silver Nissan Navara with a trailer had reportedly struck two pedestrians who were crossing the road.

The 17-year-old male driver and single occupant of the Nissan was turning right from Oceana Drive onto Rokeby Road when the vehicle struck two pedestrians who were crossing with the traffic lights.

As a result of the crash, a 42-year-old man sustained head and facial injuries and a 41-year-old woman sustained leg injuries. Both pedestrians were conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital and are in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash and would encourage witnesses to contact Bellerive Police on 131 444.

While this crash is under investigation, police remind all motorists of the importance of paying attention on the roads, and never driving tired or fatigued. Always pay attention to other road users, particularly pedestrians at road crossings. Inattention and Fatigue are both included as major contributors in fatal and serious motor vehicle crashes in Tasmania.
