Police investigating hit and run, Hyde Park

Investigators have released vision of a utility believed to be involved in a hit and run at Castletown Shopping Centre on October 15 in which an elderly pedestrian was struck by a vehicle which then fled the scene.

Just before 8am on Friday October 15, an 89-year-old woman was walking in the underground car park of the shopping centre, at the Barryman Street entrance. A utility drove past her and then began to reverse and collided with the lady, causing her to fall and hit her head on the ground.

The utility then left the carpark.

The Garbutt woman was transported to the Townsville Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition with head injuries.

The ute is believed to be a black Holden Commodore ute with style sides and a distinctive chrome nudge bar (see photos of actual vehicle and similar vehicle).

Investigators are appealing for the driver, or anyone who recognises the vehicle or has further information to contact police.
