Police investigating hit and run in Clontarf, QLD

Police are appealing for witnesses following a traffic crash involving a cyclist and a car in Clontarf on Saturday, May 11.

Preliminary investigations indicate a cyclist was riding along the Hornibrook Esplanade at around 8:30am when they were struck by a white Hyundai i30.

The impact of the crash caused the male rider to strike a second vehicle before falling onto a refuge island in front of the Bells Caravan Park.

The white Hyundai i30 then left the scene of the crash.

The 70-year-old rider was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious head injuries and spinal fractures, where he remains in a stable condition.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage from Hornibrook Esplanade on the morning of May 11 to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
